Baseball Player Height by Age
4 min readUpdated July 15, 2026
Height matters at some positions (pitcher, first base) more than others (middle infield, catcher). Below are typical height ranges by age based on CDC data cross-referenced with active roster data.
Height by age
10U (age 9–10)
4'6" – 4'11" (137–150 cm)
12U (age 11–12)
4'11" – 5'4" (150–163 cm)
14U (age 13–14)
5'3" – 5'9" (160–175 cm)
High school (15–18)
5'8" – 6'1" (172–185 cm)
College
5'11" – 6'3" (180–190 cm)
Does height matter for recruiting?
For pitchers and corner infielders, yes — but only as a data point. A 5'10" pitcher throwing 92 is a better prospect than a 6'4" pitcher throwing 84. Skill trumps size.
